Il Libraio.it : editors becoming booksellers on line

Il Libraio.it is a good example to understand how urgent is to integrate the asset of traditional bookstores into new media (before it is too late).

Il Libraio.it is the multimedia on-line space of Gruppo Editoriale Mauri Spagnol: GeMS The publishing group gathers:

_ Longanesi, Garzanti, Vallardi, Guanda, Corbaccio, Tea, Nord, (previously managed by Messaggerie Italiane) _ Salani e Ponte alle Grazie (previously managed by the Spagnol family)

Il Libraio means 'the bookseller' and on the website there are updates about freshly published books, reviews, advises, thematic sections, e-books, events calendars and other services like a store on line.

To sum it up: editors are selling books directly to the readers on websites called "the Bookseller", providing services similar to those provided by 'real' booksellers. I find it meaningful.

NOTE

GeMS promotes the contact between readers and authors through Cadoinpiedi (I land on my own feet) Cadoinpiedi is a project developed by Chiarelettere, and it is a community of authors and a platform where authors write comments on current issues.

GeMS promotes the involvement of readers through writing contests like Io Scrittore (I author) Io Scrittore in an on line competition for beginning authors.
